12 inmates at Corradino serving life sentences

Egyptians top list of foreigners currently being held at the Corradino Correctional Facility.

Twelve inmates at the Corradino Correctional Facility are serving life sentences, Home Affairs Minister Manuel Mallia told parliament this evening. Ten of these are Maltese while two others are Tunisians.

According to the information tabled in parliament, the total number of prisoners until 21 May amounted to 610, 476 of which where serving prison sentences while 134 prisoners were under preventive arrest.

It also transpired that the majority of foreign prisoners at CCF were of Egyptian nationality, whose amount totaled to 10.

This figure was followed by eight from Somalia, seven from Columbia, seven from Nigeria and five from Romania.

A total of 84 foreign prisoners reside at CCF.
