In a month, 936 persons request help against drug addiction

None of the hundreds of persons who requested help from the detox centre against drug addiction were minors.

During March alone, 936 individuals turned to the detox centre requesting help against their drug addiction.

According to information tabled in parliament by social solidarity minister Marie Louise Coleiro Preca, none of the persons were minors. March's figure also included seven Italians, five Britons, five Libyans, an Australian, a Latvian, a Moroccan, a Palestinian, a Russian, a Syrian, an Arab and a Yugoslav with a Maltese ID card.

Breaking down the figures over the past five months, it turned out that in January there were 924 individuals who requested help, in February there were 929, in April there were 921 and in May 916.

Replying to the question raised by PN MP Jason Azzopardi, Coleiro Preca said some individuals could have visited the centre during the different months as well and therefore data could be duplicated.
