The Nationalist government spent over €23 million in consultancies over five projects, transport minister Joe Mizzi revealed in parliament this evening.

Breaking down the consultancies commissioned in relation to the different projects, Mizzi said that in consultancies over the City Gate project alone, a total of €17,668,775.01 were spent. The information dates back to 2009.

The majority of consultancies, 16 companies, were appointed through direct orders -three others were through tenders and four others quotes.

On the Cirkewwa terminal, a total of €2,822,524.81 were spent between 2000 and 2013.

Consultancies on the Dock 1 project cost the exchequer €1,273,195.78 while consultancies on the failed White Rocks sports complex project amounted to €517,899.84. All consultancies related to the White Rocks were carried out through direct orders.

Consultancies on the public transport reform appear to be the 'cheapest', with the government having forked out €850,502 in consultancies since 2008. Direct orders took over the majority of the consultancies.

Was part of this monies went to PN ??

HOW VERY MISLEADING Joe Mizzi . These "consultancy" fees all involved construction projects which evidently include Architects fees , Electrical and Mechanical professional fees , project management fees , etc. It's for this reason that the public reform consultancy fees is the "cheapest" , because that is in reality a consultancy in the true meaning of the word - rather than professional fees incurred in construction projects. B' min trid tbellaha sur Mizzi ! And MaltaToday for not questioning the facts .

The PN clique had a plan and it worked for a decade. Issue Direct Orders for contracts and Consultancy Fees and collect the kickbacks. This is all water under the bridge. This government should focus whether the proper tax filing was correct on those companies and individuals that received such generosity and ensure that commissions and kickbacks paid their due taxes.

No wonder people who could hardly make ends meet suddenly were brandishing villas, yachts and expensive cars. Government should probe into the accounts of these people and make them give full account of how they managed this overnight wealth.

Yes, OK it's a shame on the PN Administration for spending such a large amount of money for consultancies, many of which were by direct order. But5 what action is going to be taken? The people is fed up of listening to Hon Joe Mizzi and other Ministries, revealing corruption and no ac action is taken. It's better for Ministers to keep their mouths shut if they are not contemplating action against those who breached the law.

Name the Consultants please.

One wonders how they managed to circumvent the EU directives which state: public supply and service contracts worth over €130 000 in the case of central government authorities, €200 000 for sub-central entities or €400 000 for entities operating in the water, energy, transport and postal services industries. In the interests of transparency, all calls for tender over the relevant thresholds must be published in the EU's Official Journal and are accessible free of charge via the Tenders Electronic Daily (TED) webpage.

What the hell's wrong with all these people that run this country? Why do they need these expensive consultants. If we took a job and had to pay a consultant to tell us how to do that job,it means that we are not fit to do the job. The same should go for all the members of parliament.

ABSOLUTE DISGUST AT THE CORRUPT AND WANTON WASTE OF PUBLIC FUNDS. The GONZIPN KLIKKA should be held accountable for absolute misuse of public funds and should be arraigned in Court. Those who were the recipients of these corrupt handouts must be named and shamed. It is the people's right to know who took away their money when they were being crucified with energy tariffs and price hikes. No wonder that GONZI considered € 60 million as a trickle.!!!!!!
avatar
OK, so who were the Consultants?

Money no problem for Gonzi ! Now he will be quitting parlamament, with an attractive retirement package, full of perks !!And, a pension, equal to his salary as a Prime Minister ! All taxpayers monies !!!!

If these consultancies had produced good fruit, maybe we wouldn't mind so much, but all mentioned produced such dismal results, its so depressing. The money this government will save from these useless consultancies alone, will probably be enough to bring the deficit down to 2.7%
