Bone density unit set up at Gozo General Hospital

Government inaugurates bone density unit at the Gozo General Hospital.

Gozo residents can now access services provided by the Bone Density Unity directly at their hospital in Gozo after a new unit was opened today.

While works on the unit started last year, costs and installation of equipment was finalised during the last three months.

The unit was inaugurated today by Health Minister Godfrey Farrugia and parliamentary secretary Franco Mercieca. Plans are in the pipeline for the unit to be used for screening of osteoporosis.

Farrugia said the unit formed part of a wider project which included the setting up of a radiology department and new operations wards with a total investment of €4 million. The project is co-financed by the European Union .

The health minister said the government was committed in providing quality health services on the sister island. Increasing services in Gozo would reduce the burden from the waiting lists in Malta, Farrugia said.
