Summer heat and scorching sun will not stop some 40 players from taking part in the fifth edition of the volleyball marathon in aid of Dar tal-Providenza in Siggiewi.
The 53-hour challenge spans over the weekend and includes entertainment from leading singers and dancers.
The total sum collected so far is that of €222,890.
On Saturday morning, both Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and Opposition leader Simon Busuttil visited the marathon and urged the public to make its donation.
On his part, Muscat lauded the work carried out by the home while Busuttil pledged the PN's support to the voluntary sector.
Id-Dar tal-Providenza was founded by Mgr Mikiel Azzopardi in 1965 to provide accommodation to persons with special needs who for one or more reasons, their family could not assist or attend to their specific requirements. The home offers respite to a number of families with a member suffering from a disability. Currently, Dar tal-Providenza is home to 99 residents.
Its expenses run in thousands of euros a week.
