Labour MEP Marlene Mizzi was appointed as the Socialists and Democrats' (S&D) main spokesperson on the upcoming report regarding Insurance of natural and man-made disasters.

This is Mizzi's first official appointment as a rapporteur since her election as a Member of the European Parliament.

The report will focus on the increased costs that insurance companies in Europe are facing due to the increase in the number of natural and man-made disasters occurring throughout Europe.

The Labour Party also announced that MEP Claudette Abela Baldacchino was appointed as shadow rapporteur for the EU's proposal on the rights and employment conditions of maritime officers. The Parliamentary committee of employment and social affairs endorsed this appointment.

The Labour Party said it was following closely this EU proposal since Malta was one of the leading stakeholders in ship registration.

Marlene Mizzi and Claudette Abela Baldacchino both were elected in casual elections to the European Parliament last April. They replaced Louis Grech and Edward Scicluna who resigned from their seat, having contested successfully the general election.
