Process launched for a cruise liner terminal in Gozo
Minister for Gozo excludes Hondoq ir-Rummien as a possible location.
Gozo minister Anton Refalo this morning launched an international call for interest for two separate projects: a cruise liner terminal and a yacht marina in Gozo.
"Until now, there are no similar facilities in Gozo. The projects are aimed to generate more tourism towards Gozo and provide employment for the locals" the Minister said.
Anton Refalo said this was one of the proposals in the Labour Party manifesto for economic growth in Gozo.
The process for the expression of interest started on 28th June and will end next September. Various companies from Spain, Sweden, Greece and Turkey, together with numerous Maltese (and Gozitan) companies already showed some interest in the project.
Refalo insisted that at this stage there are no particular places that are more likely than others to host the projects. "This will be determined by several factors, including the environmental impact," he concluded.
Nonetheless he firmly excluded Ħondoq ir-Rummien as a possible location.
