PN financial report finalised – Chris Said
The financial recommendations in report on the PN’s financial situation to be implemented soon, secretary-general Chris Said says.
The Nationalist Party will soon be implementing recommendations made in a report on its finances, drawn up by its new financial chief and former leadership contender ray Bugeja.
Speaking on the PN's radio station, secretary-general Chris Said said that the report was only completed recently and had been submitted to the party's leadership.
Although he described the report as "good", Said pointed out that the report will not be published.
Following the electoral defeat in March, the PN was reported as having huge financial troubles, with debts reported to reach €8 million. PN employees have not yet received all payments due and are still receiving their salaries late.
He added that the Opposition would however publish the details of its 2013 general election expenses, noting that unlike the Labour Party's report, it would be "credible."
In further comments on the migration situation, Said said that the government had violated the basic human rights of migrants who reached Malta this week by failing to provide proper shelter.
"For the first time in eight years, migrants were taken to the police depot, instead of the being taken to the open centres and provided with a bed, food and water," he said, adding that the migrants had been exposed to the elements for over 48 hours.
Questioning why the government did not allow NGOs, the UNHCR and journalists access to the migrants held at the Police HQ in Floriana, Said said "Their treatment was inhumane. We have seen pictures of a baby and women sleeping on the floor and exposed to the elements. Are these the values of the Maltese population? Definitely not. They were treated as if they had been arrested and were not even allowed to speak to anyone."
