Cottonera primary students to get decent schoolyard
Recreational area, football ground and underground parking in the pipeline for Cottonera primary school.
The education ministry in collaboration with the infrastructure ministry were in the process of giving students attending the Cottonera primary school a decent schoolyard, ministers Evarist Bartolo and Joe Mizzi announced today.
Attended to by 230 kids, the school has only two very small yards.
The government's plan was however to turn the current parking area outside the school into a school yard (or football ground) and move the car park underground. The adjacent garden is to be turned into a recreational area that will be used by both the students during school hours and Cottonera residents.
Briefing the press over the current maintenance project, Education Minister Evarist Bartolo said current maintenance work at the Cottonera school, which forms part of St Margaret's College, have reached €150,000. The works include repainting and plastering.
A total of €15 million have been allocated for the school maintenance programme. It is planned that during this year's summer holidays, 94 schools are attended to.
The total number of government schools across Malta and Gozo total 107.
