Mater Dei hospital applies for new staff car park
New plans for car park for Mater Dei staff within the hospital grounds, beyond the Birkirkara Bypass.
The Foundation for Medical Services has presented plans for a new car park for Mater Dei staff within the hospital grounds, beyond the Birkirkara Bypass.
The aim of the application is to clear and excavate the land to construct a surface parking area for Mater Dei staff.
According to the new plans, the staff will be ferried across the bypass to Mater Dei through a minivan service.
The application also states that most probably the same site will be used for a major hospital-related facility, in which case, the currently proposed MDH staff parking facility will be transferred underground. However, the application for such a project would be made separately, at a future date yet to be determined.
The 12,672 square metres of land on which the new car park is set to be developed is described as "barren".
Mater Dei staff were granted free parking facilities in the hospital's underground car park in 2011, following the threat of industrial action by the Union Haddiema Maqghudin.
