[WATCH] 106 migrants rescued by Armed Forces, brought ashore
Total of 106 asylum seekers rescued at sea by Armed Forces of Malta, brought into Hay Wharf
The Melita Search and Rescue Vessel has just arrived in Hay Wharf, Floriana, carrying four Somalian men, aged 13, 17, 19, and 22.
One is suffering from chest pains, one is dehydrated, one has medical issues, and the other is suffering exhaustion. They have been rushed to Mater Dei.
Earlier, three women - including two who were preganant - were airlifted to hospital.
They were rescued from a dinghy, found 20 nautical miles south of Malta, among 97 other asylum seekers, who are expected to berth at Hay Wharf at 1 p.m. today, bringing the total number of arrivals to 106.
The AFM has confirmed the group is made up of 17 women and 89 men.

And please, when the actual numbers of illegal immigrants setting foot on our shores are quoted, do not forget to include the offspring population as well. Most of the women who are arriving lately are heavily pregnant women. Is this a new strategy being used by the human traffickers and the immigrants themselves, knowing full well that it is more convenient to have them on board? Besides, a good number of them tend to procreate whilst here in Malta, rendering their offspring/s Maltese by naturalisation. This is a very convenient excuse for them to remain here in our country, scot free. Food for thought.

By the way, you can send some of them to Corinne Vella. She will be overjoyed accepting them with her l€g$ wide open. She can share some with a certain close relative of hers.
•
Issue them with passports and send them to Brussells. I'm sure that they will find Commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom welcoming them with her hands wide open

The more the merrier - according to Simon Busuttil & Co and the handful of stooges and NGO's who recently bored us with their bleating. However, how about this for a constructive idea? There is a lot of space at the PN HQ in Pieta, besides a proliferation of PN clubs throughout Malta and Gozo. If the PN REALLY wants to augment a solidarity deal why don't they open these outlets and welcome these immigrants with open arms, providing housing, clothing and perhaps a sort of "victory kitchen" for them? That would really be a charitable gesture and would also help ease the burden on the Maltese economy.

I'm sick and tired reading the illegality entry to Malta by these migrants who are burden the Maltese economy and culture while the EU members watch with little pep talk and no effort to help. The Mediterranean is part European and should be patrolled by the EU navies but instead the navies are harboured in their homeland. This is a EU problem.Time for Malta to pushback and turn loose the Dublin 11 which was agreed upon by the previous administration.

@Antoine Vella
Next time Joseph Muscat should use his option to start Pushing Back and or Push Forward. I think that most Maltese people will back him up except fot the PN who are looking for votes and the NGOs who are looking for glory and money.

Learn to count. Pregnant women are two people, not one. Even more, sometimes.

Jekk rajt sew kien hemm id-69 avukat, l-NGO's, l-awturi u dawk kollha li xerrdu dmugh tal kukkudrilli, jaghtu daqqa t'id lis-suldati taghna. Ejja nammettu li hija problema u minghajr ma indeffsu il mishuta politika fiha ninghaqdu biex flimkien nipruvaw insolvuha.

Come in, we have very good accommodation and food here for you. You have the support of PN, UNHCR and NGOs !!!! Now tell all your relatives and friends to come over ! Bring more pregnant woman so we will increase our muslim population and one day will take over this island and make it the first EU muslim state !
•
We should put them in a 4 star hotel otherwise they will sue us for degrading their human rights! It's no wonder that the eu is fast becoming a failed union: bankrupt countries, unemployment, lower standard of living, rising debt, deficits and now these illegal immigrants who instead of being reallocated to mainland Europe, they are conveniently parked here. Viva Simon who signed Dublin 2 , condemning us for ever to become a parking lot for illegal immigrants

Now that Malta has been fined 60,000 euros for having toilets not good enough to meet the illegal immigrants standards at the centres, what is next? Here is what is next. Read this comment made to me on the Independent a few days ago.
Dear GL Sammut,
Mr B J Simmons has left a the reply comment
"You want to know what the English think? We have to bow and scrape to their every wish. We have to accept their strange ways. We note that some of the men will 'groom' young girls from pre teen years with drink and drugs to enable them to abuse them in a way that doing it to or with their own kind is frowned upon. The Red Cross banned 'Christmas scenes' from their Christmas cards so not to upset them. If you hurl abuse at one, it is a racial crime. They create their own ghettos and abuse their own kind. One of their popular pastimes is causing road accidents for insurance payouts causing up to a 20% increase in insurance premiums. In some places like airports or hospitals you could be banned from wearing a visible Cross. If you wear a FULL BURKA you will be waved through Customs at airports yet as a male pensioner they will want my shoes and belt and demand that I wear or remove my glasses. If a woman goes to their country they will usually have to wear certain clothing, yet here the immigrants can dress how they like. They can call for Jihad but will still take our housing and social benefits. I already feel like a minority in my own country and as you say, if I visit a large city I will always be in the minority. We have emigration here but it's always rich or retired people moving to France, Spain or such places. We get illegal immigrant, alleged asylum seekers all who want or need to take advantage of the generous welfare and state benefits without EVER contributing to the country. Malta, you don't know what's to come, but I hope it never gets as bad as it is here. Already though I am thinking that I should rethink my annual holiday visit to Malta as I can find all the immigrants I want at home. Good Luck.
•
I hope that all the do-gooders who are comfortable with this situation draining our coffers and man power have a solution in their sleeve. And I hope that the government will reconsider the push-back option as this seems to be the only solution for this problem unless the do-gooders offer a long term sponsorship to these needy brothers and sisters of ours.
•
@Antoine. the Pieta gang would just love it if Joseph were to make a stand against the people smuggling operations. It ll give them a chance to backstab the country like they did last time. PN have lost not just my vote but thousands like me who want a solution to this issue!
•
One asks, when is the next shipment due to arrive on our shores? Maybe it would be appropriate if they are met with a fanfare when these illegal immigrants are brought ashore.
•
I'm glad to note that Joseph Muscat has not dared push them back this time. Hopefully he has learnt his bitter lesson and will NEVER repeat that stupid gaffe.
•
Doesn't look as though the meeting with the Libyan d/PM has had any effect so far. Maybe I was naïve when I was banking on there being no arrivals at least for some weeks. But hope is eternal, they say; so let's hope we'll get some positive results.

imbaghad imorru jfittxu lil Malta fil-qorti ewropea u jsiru sinjuri minn fuqna! Wara kollox huma kisru l-ligi meta jidhlu f'pajjizna bla permess!!! Taghmel il-hazin u tigi premjat!
•
These are not men. They are children.
•
Pushback policy is the only solution, otherwise we are going to end up in a very bad situation.Shame on our EU brothers, they have abandoned us.
•
I hope that somebody will inform these visitors that if they do not like their accommodations, they can write to the EU court and they will be remunerated.
•
Government should distribute the increased diversity across the island. Why not, say, site new open centres close to the abode of those who are vehemently opposing the pushback policy and taking the moral high ground? We have many such open and closed centres in the South: Marsa, Hal Far/Birzebbugia, Ta' Kandja. But what about other areas e.g Bugibba area, Bidnija area, Sliema/St Julians area, Mellieha, Madliena, Gozo and others (generally in the North). If it is so noble to help these poor souls and so good to have a multicultural society then why not share such "bounty" across Malta and we then see whether those do-gooders who oppose pushback continue to speak the same language?

And still Malta Today drags its feet and does not organise a new survey on this problem? Readers of this paper believe that it is closer to public opinion and feeling. And surveys prove it - when done.
Joseph MELI •
And still they will come and even more so !As their compatriots will inform them (and on the latest up-to-date cell phones as well)about soft -touch Malta and its open-door policy -care of the uncaring and autocratic EU .Look how being unattached helps Israel and Australia solve their migrant problems
•
Another present to share with our European brothers and sisters. EU Practice what you Preach. Do be so quick Mr Van Rompuy!
•
I live with them ,and I found out that they out smart us .good for them.
•
GIve them a Maltese ID card withoy the printing that it is only valid in Malta and let them go on to mainland Europe for Brussels to enjoy their benefits.
•
I'am sure that many Maltese will celebrate the increase diversity in their neigborthood.Thank you Simon. We will show you in the PN Mep's.
