Call for interest for design, construction and operation of marine hatchery

‘Government ready to work hand in hand with private sector’ - Galdes

Parliamentary secretary for agriculture and fishing Roderick Galdes announced the government's call for an expression of interest for a Private Public Partnership (PPP) for the design, construction and operation of a marine hatchery.

This was announced during a news conference at the aquaculture centre in Marsaxlokk.

Galdes said this sector was ever growing and so the government is ready to work hand in hand with the private sector to ensure it continues to grow, opening more possibilities of employment, opportunities for professionals and prospects for youths.

He added the EU has urged member states to invest in a sustainable manner in aquaculture.

"The government's vision is the creation of a large centre of research, with resources adequate for keeping up with the momentum of development," he said.
