Medical professionals, engineers among volunteers going to Kenya
Prime Minister Joseph Muscat meets volunteers heading to Kenya on a charity mission.
Doctors, nurses, engineers, builders and a family of four are among the 35 Maltese volunteers who will be heading to Kenya to help out the people in need.
The mission forms part of the Kenya Mission International and organised by the New Era Movement.
The volunteers include a team of doctors and nurses, a team of engineers, a team of builders who will be working on a dormitory for orphans in Embu and a team of social and education volunteers who will work with the children.
Led by Fr Colin Apap, the group spoke about the several projects planned including the setting up of a water filtration system that will provide communities with drinkable water.
Hydrologist Marco Cremona, who coordinated the water project, explained the Maltese engineers develop a system that would filter water extracted from an existent borehole. This borehole could supply 50,000 litres of water a day.
The University of Malta will also be contributing a solar distiller, to provide clean water every day.
