It’s not about sympathy votes but my abilities – Kevin Cutajar
Blind lawyer refutes suggestions his candidature would attract sympathy votes for the Nationalist Party.
Gozitan lawyer Kevin Cutajar, 35, fell blind during his teenage years but this has not stopped him from becoming an accomplished lawyer and diving into politics.
Contesting the MEP elections on the PN ticket for the first time, Cutajar tells Sunday newspaper Illum the electorate votes for him for his abilities and not because he attracts sympathy due to his disability.
Cutajar and the PN had faced similar claims during the general election during which he secured 1,117 votes. At the time, the PN had been accused of using Cutajar to attract sympathy votes.
"As the election itself showed, trying to use disability to attract sympathy votes does not work. The electorate votes for the candidate's ability. People vote for me because I work for my votes."
