Malta fined for ‘violating right to private life’
The European Court of Human Rights has fined Malta 6,000 for not registering a marriage between a Maltese citizen and a Russian girl.
According to ‘News of Russia’, Mazen Dadoush of Syria was granted Maltese citizenship in 1993.
In 2003 he visited Moscow and met a girl there whom he later brought to Malta to get married. His documents were found ‘suspicious’ and because of red tape Dadoush managed to marry his Russian lady only three years after.
The man appealed to the European Court of Human Rights, saying his right to private life was violated.
