AFM and US Navy in joint training exercises
Five US Navy sailors in Malta for Explosives Ordinance Disposal exercise with Armed Forces of Malta.
The U.S. Navy recently sent a group of five sailors to Malta for a bilateral theater security cooperation event with the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM).
On 11 and 12 August, the Explosives Ordinance Disposal-trained sailors met with AFM diving and Explosives Ordinance Disposal (EOD) counterparts in Fort Mosta to share best practices in EOD capabilities and techniques.
The AFM's EOD section is on call 24 hours a day and members are the sole professional EOD technicians on the Island. They provide security screening both on land and underwater as tasked by the command of the AFM.
The U.S. personnel then returned to their regular duties as part of the USS HARRY S TRUMAN Carrier Strike Group on 13 August. The USS HARRY S TRUMAN is on a nine-month deployment conducting maritime security and counter-terrorism operations in the Mediterranean Sea and Persian Gulf.
