JPO seeking bipartisan support on latest campaign

The case of Hannah Smith, a 14-year old who committed suicide in the UK over a cyber bullying case was what inspired JPO to start the campaign.

Former Nationalist backbencher Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando called for the two main parties’ support on enacting legislation on cyber harassment and cyber stalking.

“Several politicians have already offered their support on an individual basis, but the political parties should back it as well. I don’t see why this should not be the case. It is not a matter of Nationalists or Labourites, everyone cares for their children,” he told sister newspaper ‘Illum’.

JPO defines cyber bullying as the misappropriate use of Internet to continuously harass the victim. He said this could be carried out via SMS, e-mails, social media and ‘hate blogs’.

Pullicino Orlando says the case of Hannah Smith, a 14-year old who committed suicide in the UK over a cyber bullying case was the main reason he decided to act. He refused claims that this campaign was primarily intended to close down Daphne Caruana Galizia’s blog.
