Flamingos sighted over Malta

ALE officers watched over the birds while they roosted for the night.

The sighting of a flock of flamingos over Malta yesterday evening prompted the hunters' federation to call in members of the ALE to watch over the birds as they rested during the night.

"The FKNK was happy to note the immediate response of the ALE, with officers watching over the birds while they roosted last night," FKNK said.

The federation reiterated its appeal to members and general public to immediately report any illegalities that may be witnessed regarding protected wild bird species. Reports, it said, should be made directly to the Police on telephone numbers 112 or 21224001.

In June, three people were questioned over the disappearance of a flamingo that had come to rest at the Salina saltpans near St Paul's Bay.

The bird was never reported as found and no one had been arraigned.

"The bird was never reported as found and no one had been arraigned." This is Malta and nobody ever gets arraigned over killing birds of any kind. The FKNK like the Armier illegal boat houses have a very strong lobby and they seem to be able to control the government. Actually it is the renegade hunters that are so desperate, they shoot at anything that has wings. The FKNK has a duty to report these renegade hunters if they know who they are. Protect these beautiful gracious birds. The courts should harshly punish those who do not follow the laws of the land.
