Easyjet flight to Malta aborts landing
Easyjet flight spends 10 minutes in air due to inclement weather conditions
An Easyjet flight from London Gatwick had to abort landing and stay up in the air for around 10 minutes, after it came close to another Ryanair flight to Malta whilst in mid-air.
An informed source said that Easyjet flight EY8823 was around 922 metres high when another Ryanair airliner, FR 3882 - flying from Luton in the United Kingdom - came close to it at a height of around 1,200 metres.
Easyjet aborted its landing, as passengers were told by their captain that the flight would be waiting for the weather to clear.
The Easyjet flight landed at 10:54am, when it was originally scheduled at 10:40am, while the Ryanair flight landed at 10:45am.

I think that in Malta it is 5 nautical Miles. If this in infringed the aircraft will know (due to TCAS on board the aircraft) The Pilot have to report this and also inform ATC about this. From the conversion I heard on the tower frequency, nobody reported loss of separation. You can listen the the tower frequency on http://www.liveatc.net/.
You can also hear the reason why Easy Jet performed this miss approach. Ryan air diverted to Trapani because is he waited for the weather to pass, he will not have enough fuel to divert in case the weather remained over Malta.

I read in the UK press that Ryanair carry enough fuel to just arrive at the destination without allowing for emergency contingencies. I hope this was not the case here.

So the "informed source " was talikig a load of nonsense then and what is the minumum distance that aircraft must be kept apart and what was it "officially " in this case?

There was never a loss of separtion. If you convert the difference in height this will be approximatly 1000feet, which is the normal vertical separtion

if you see the radar playback on http://www.flightradar24.com/ and listen to the ATC frequency, there was never an air miss. the Easy jet was no one and made a go around due to weather. The Ryan air was 7 miles behind and also made a go around when on final. Easy Jet requested to hold at 3000 feet while the Ryan air was cleared 4000 ft. Easy jet request to hold for 10 min until the weather passes, while Ryan air opted to divert to Trapani due to Shortage of fuel.
The separation was never broken

Probably Ryanair was given priority (as if it was as alleged in other flights)it might have been running low on fuel.

Furthermore,it must be recorded soemwhere(Flight Pilot's log and ATC recordings) why exactly the landing was aborted -so lets know please!

So which is it that cuased this near-hit ?Was it a fault of ATC procedures that caused these aircraft to become "too close" wahtever that means -as was it outwith safety limit disatnces or what?
