Environment minister condemns rampant destruction of trees
Legislative framework to protect trees will be finalised in the coming days.
Environment Minister Leo Brincat has condemned the rampant destruction of trees at the Boys' Junior Lyceum in Hamrun.
Concerned Flimkien ghal Ambjent Ahjar members reported the incident to Education Minister Evarist Bartolo who immediately halted the pruning of the trees.
In May, the environment ministry appointed a consultative committee tasked with drafting a legislative framework to protect trees. The framework, the ministry said, will be concluded in the coming days.
Deploring the attacks made on the members of the consultative council, who were held responsible by some over the school's trees incident, the minister urged all stakeholders to shoulder responsibility for their actions.

ben_azzopardi you are correct. The persons/company concerned must be blacklisted. I hope that we shall not see any trees being pruned liek this in the future.

I'm sure branches are being dried to be ready for selling when the cold weather sets in. The company /contractor or whoever has been entrusted with the job should be blacklisted and Local Councils should be informed so that the story will not happen again. Abusing the few trees we have has been going on far too long. Please show you mean business.

Instead of condemning the act, the ministry should check the qualifications of the employees entrusted for such jobs. Not every person has a sense of gardening and pruning is a skill.
