Croatians residing in Malta may vote for the first time
Non-Maltese EU Citizens who opt to to vote in Malta for the European Parliament elections, would be renouncing their right to vote in their home country.
In view of Croatia’s membership in the EU, the Electoral Commission announced that Croatian citizens, residing in the Maltese Islands and already holding a Malta ID card or residence document, may opt to register to vote in Malta in the European Parliament Elections, for candidates standing for election in Malta.
This procedure is also required in respect of other non-Maltese EU citizens residing in Malta, who prefer to vote in Malta instead of their home country. This is possible as long as they are in possession of the relevant documents.
As usual, non-Maltese EU Citizens who opt to be registered to vote in Malta, would be renouncing their right to vote in their home country in the same elections.
The Electoral Commission reminds non-Maltese EU nationals voting in Malta that registration for entry in the European Parliament elections register is not automatic. Those interested have to call at the Electoral Office at Evans Building, St Elmo Square, Valletta, or to fill in the appropriate form available on the Electoral Commission’s website www.electoral.gov.mt
