Four bidders show interest in marine hatchery development

Four local and foreign investors apply to government’s call for expression of interest for the design, construction and operation of a marine hatchery.

Both local and foreign investors have shown interest in the international call for expression of interest issued by the government for the design, construction and operation of a marine hatchery.

According to the parliamentary secretariat for fisheries, the government has received four bids for the private public partnership (PPP) project. Parliamentary secretary Roderick Galdes is expected to appoint a board in the coming days to evaluate the offers received and decide on the next step.

The secretariat said the sector was ever growing and so the government is ready to work hand in hand with the private sector to ensure it continues to grow, opening more possibilities of employment, opportunities for professionals and prospects for youths.

The government estimates the project would contribute €7 million a year to the country's coffers.

The marine hatchery will also include a new and bigger Aquaculture Resource Centre.
