Gozo Tourism Association welcomes Enemalta deal

Gozo Tourism Association welcomes Malta-China agreement on partial privitisation of Enemalta.

The Gozo Tourism Association today welcomed the Memorandum of Understanding which was signed between the Maltese and Chinese governments which will see an energy company owned by the Chinese government invest around €200 million in Enemalta.

"The Gozo Tourism Association believes that this is the beginning of new developments within Enemalta and obviously in the production of energy. Such developments will bring about positive results that the tourism sector, especially on Gozo, will benefit from."

GTA added that it was looking forward for the implementation of this agreement,  which will be opening up many opportunities in the energy sector.

"The Gozitan tourism establishments hope that this new direction at Enemalta will bring about a change that they will gain from, especially from the energy bill, which is a cost that is eroding the tourism establishments profitability."

Maybe the Gozo Tourism Association sees something in the Enemalta China investment that a lot of Maltese do not see. There are pros and cons in the deal. When one sees the hole that Enemalta has dug itself into, mostly by bad management something must be done. The Maltese Tax Payer cannot keep bailing out stupidity. The Maltese Tax Payer has already spent over 135,000,000 Million euros to bail out Air Malta which should have been privatized on the spot. Again that happened because of the lack of leadership and lack of supervision by the government. We still have to deal with the fiasco of Arriva. Again, one should never send a boy to do a man's job.
