Carnival to return to its original place
Political satire during carnival is expected next year.
Next year’s carnival is set to be based in St George’s Square, Valletta, the original location where carnival used to be celebrated more than 40 years ago.
The decision was announced by junior Minister Josè Herrera, who also revealed that from next year political satire would be allowed.
“These decisions were taken after consulting with the participants who made known their wishes and proposals,” Herrera said during the ceremony of awards in relation to this year’s carnival.
Carnival director Jason Busuttil said the floats would pass from Merchants street, Archbishop street and Republic street. On Saturday evening, carnival celebrations will take place into the night. He also announced several exchanges were planned with participants of foreign carnivals such as Viareggio and Notting hill.
Carnival 2014 will be celebrated between 28th February and 4th March 2014.
