Sixth annual world focus on autism held in New York
Conference to promote autism awareness attended to by spouses of Heads of State and Government attending the 68th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The sixth annual world focus on autism was held in New York to promote autism awareness and highlight autism as a global public health issue. The conference was organised by Autism Speaks Co-founders Suzanne and Bob Wright and Ban Soon-Taek, U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon's wife.
Joining other spouses of Heads of State and Government, Joseph Muscat's wife, Michelle, had the opportunity to interact with children with autism and their parents.
During the Conference, health professionals and advocates highlighted efforts to improve services and raise awareness.
Discussing the research carried out by the Autism Speaks, the conference emphasised the need to mobilize the international community to support these individuals and families.
The United Nations, as a partner, plays a key role in advocating for individuals affected by autism and protecting their human rights.
Commenting after the conference, Michelle Muscat said: "We have an important role to play in raising awareness and taking action on autism. Today's conference has discussed the effort to provide better services and create a more compassionate community for families living with Autism around the world."
