Busuttil ate his words on John Dalli accusations - Labour
PN leader Simon Busuttil attempts to make up for last week’s fiasco by contradicting himself the Labour says.
Opposition leader Simon Busuttil ate his words yesterday after admitting new Police Commissioner Peter Paul Zammit had decided, 'on his own', not to arraign John Dalli, Labour said.
"He has therefore decided to change tack in an attempt to make up for last week's fiasco," the Labour Party said.
Last week, members of the Opposition led by their leader Simon Busuttil walked out of the House of Representatives following a ruling handed by Speaker Anglu Farrugia.
Farrugia was asked to investigate a possible breach of privilege by the Opposition leader after he accused Prime Minister Joseph Muscat of "political interference" in the police investigation involving John Dalli.
Farrugia ruled that after Busuttil failed to substantiate his accusation, and after reading the 40-page testimony given by former police commissioner John Rizzo, the Opposition leader was in "prima facie breach of privilege." A subsequent motion tabled by the Opposition to overturn the ruling was also defeated.
"Simon Busuttil is sinking, and he is dragging the PN down with him to hide his own mistaken and hasty decisions," the PL said.
Insisting that Busuttil's actions were not condoned by all Opposition MPs, Labour said that "Busuttil is isolating himself from the people by embracing negative politics."
