6 asylum seekers to start a new life in Luxembourg

A group of six persons have this morning left Malta to start a new life in Luxembourg, after the latter has decided to participate in the European Union’s pilot program to relocate immigrants from Malta.

The group made up of an Eritrean adult couple who were saved in 2005, two Somalian mothers together with their two children who came to Malta in 2006, will be offered assistance including two year-long apartments and training with the French Language.  The Luxembourg Ministry for Family and Integration will monitor closely their progress.

This is not the first time that Luxembourg is helping Malta with illegal immigration affairs and asylum. Last year, a marine surveillance plane was provided by the country during the Nautilus operation managed by FRONTEX.

The relocation of this small group is the second group to leave Malta after 95 immigrants were resettled in France earlier this month.
