Opposition declares itself in favour of civil unions
PN to propose amendments where marriage law 'could not' be applied to civil unions because of differences between the two.
The Nationalist Opposition has declared itself in favour of civil unions but will propose amendments to the Civil Liberties Act so that "the marriage law would not apply to the civil unions due to differences between the two".
The Nationalist parliamentary group met this afternoon to discuss its position on the Civil Liberties Act which is now at is second reading in Parliament.
"The PN is in favour of a law which legalises and recognises relationships between same-sex couples," it said, adding that this was in line with its electoral manifesto.
It said that the parliamentary group today decided "it would be ready to vote in favour of the law when this would be discussed in parliament".
The PN said it would seek consensus from both sides of the House on its proposed amendments.
