Hundreds gather for migrants’ funeral [SLIDESHOW]

Two children and one woman, all of Syrian nationality, laid to rest

A funeral service was held this afternoon for three of the victims from the tragedy in which the boat that was carrying them, along with hundreds of other migrants, capsized 65 miles off the island of Lampedusa on October 11th.

The victims were a Syrian woman and two children, whilst many of the ones who attended the ceremony at the mosque in Paola were on the same boat which capsized.

After the funeral, the bodies were carried to the burial patch, situated in the grounds behind the mosque, where their bodies were laid to rest.

Why not go to immensely rich Saudi Arabia which is awash with oil without the need to take dangerous sea voyages on rickety boats?

what help is giving from other Muslim rich countries to these emigrants? Our small country cannot give them a future.

How many more illegal immigrants have to lose their lives before the EU takes a stand and start stopping these dangerous crossings from Northern Africa, mainly Libya and Tunisia? The EU and the NGOs are mostly responsible for all these deaths because they encourage such crossings. Those charitable, profitable NGOs are to share some of the blame for the same reason. There is proof that these illegal immigrants have a solid connection coming from European countries and that probably includes Maltese citizens, how else would they be communicating with special radios and other special communication and very smartly ask for help in the middle of the EU waters soon as they leave Libyan waters? I always thought that this was a very well thought off operation and so far it has been working.
