Office of University Ombudsman to be abolished
Charles Farrugia temporarily retained in a consultative capacity
The Office of the University Ombudsman will be abolished as of tomorrow, by means of the 2012 amendments to the Education Act.
The parliamentary Ombudsman has, in the meantime, set in motion the process for the appointment of a Commissioner for Education in line with the provisions of Article 17A of the Ombudsman Act as well as Legal Notice 248 of 2012, which amongst others establishes the functions of a Commissioner for Education.
Until the Commissioner is appointed, the parliamentary Ombudsman has appointed Charles Farrugia, the outgoing University Ombudsman, in a consultative capacity, saying that his "expertise is considered essential to the effectiveness of the investigation of complaints relating to the Education sector".
The parliamentary Obudsman informed interested persons that complaints or submissions formerly sent for the consideration of the University Ombudsman, may be forwarded directly to the him either by e-mail at [email protected] or directly to the Office of the Ombudsman at 11, St Paul's Street, Valletta.
