PN will not cease crusade against sale of citizenship - Opposition Leader
Opposition leader Simon Busuttil says 'threats and insults' will not hinder PN's crusade to safeguard 'soul of Maltese identity'.
The PN will not cease its crusade against the selling of citizenship will not stop, Opposition Leader Simon Busuttil pledged this morning.
Speaking at the Party's club in Safi, Dr Busuttil said the matter disgraced what constituted being a Maltese person, and the government was willing to sell the country's soul for money. " The work of former premiers George Borg Olivier, Dom Mintoff, and Eddie Fenech Adami will be jeopardised by the selling of citizenships," Busuttil said.
Such selling of citizenships is intrinsically wrong, "however our Prime Minister does not appreciate this as he never worked for the country's identity". The sham goes on as the awarding of citizenship is entrusted to a company who will not reveal the names of those who were given Malta's citizenship. "The Opposition will cooperate on an investment scheme, but will not support the sale of citizenship. Neither would the Opposition intimidated by threats and insults", Busuttil said, reiterating that a future PN government would withdraw such citizenships.
A Kinder Sorpresa Budget
PN leader Simon Busuttil said he is curious to see what kind of kinder sorpresa budget the government will propose tomorrow.
"This is Muscat's first opportunity to show the country what his economic policy would lead to, and the people will judge the government's definition of economic growth, financial stability and job generation", Busuttil said.
"For the past months the government has only thought of his supporters and their relatives, it is time Muscat thinks of the rest of the population too" the Opposition Leader said questioning if the government will honour pre-election promises about hospital overcrowding, out of stock medicines and refund VAT on vehicle registrations.
The country is expecting Muscat's government to give tablet computers to schoolchildren, launch free childcare services and not increase taxes, the Opposition leader said.
Norman Vella's case
The case of Norman Vella highlighted a serious abuse of power and struck a blow at the Maltese democratic society.
"Not only it is unacceptable that people are arrested and interrogated over a hype, but it is shameful that the Commissioner of Police in court defended such blatant abuse", the Opposition Leader concluded, reiterating his call on the Commissioner to step down from office.
