Worker succumbs to injuries after quarry accident

27-year-old Mark Gauci, who suffered grievous injuries while working in a quarry yesterday afternoon, succumbed to his injuries during the night.

According to police investigations, Gauci was driving a truck carrying boulders when it skidded and began rolling backwards as he was climbing a slope to unload.

The accident allegedly took place around 2pm, in a quarry near Mgarr.

The police said that as the driver began climbing out of the cabin, he was caught by the vehicle and dragged down with it before it overturned.

The truck continued sliding on its side until it came to stop in the gravel on the edge of the slope.
