'Gender quota not enough' - Claudette Abela Baldacchino
Labour MEP calls for the EU parliament to adopt a long-term vision to achieve gender equality in high positions.
In light of the European Parliament approving the Gender Balance on Company Boards report, Labour MEP Claudette Abela Baldacchino has called for the implementation of more gender-equality measures.
“The gender equality within company boards is worrying as just 16.6% of board members are women. Gender-quota is not enough, the parliament should implement a better long term vision in an effort to offset this discrepancy.”
Addressing the EP plenary session in Strasbourg, she remarked that 20% of European women were either physically or sexually assaulted.
Abela Baldacchino underlined that the Parliament should strive more to implement new measures to increase and show solidarity with these victims who cannot move forward.
