Pilots union lifts industrial action after new Air Malta CEO is announced
Pilots’ union lift industrial directive and tell pilots to report for work in full uniform
The airline pilots association ALPA Malta has welcomed the designation of Air Malta's former chief engineer Louis Giordimaina as chief executive for the national airline.
Giordimaina's designation comes just five months ahead of the expiration of incumbent chief executive Peter Davies' contract in 2014.
"ALPA Malta welcomes on board once again Mr Giordimaina who has already worked for Air Malta in a managerial position in the past," ALPA said.
The union was from the outset against the selection of Peter Davies, who steered the airline throughout its €230 million restructuring process and has since halved its previous losses.
The union said it was removing an industrial directive whereby pilots were not reporting for work in full uniform.
"ALPA would now like to start afresh with the new designate CEO and will remove the directive corresponding to the industrial dispute filed last August, and calling on all pilots to report in Full Uniform as of Next Monday.
"Although several pending issues have not been solved, ALPA Malta is convinced that together with the new designate CEO an acceptable solution to both parties will be found. ALPA Malta looks forward to work with Mr Giordimaina in order to guarantee a sustainable and profitable airline while also respecting the conditions of employment of its members."
