Mortality in the Maltese islands at 3,221

During the year 2009 there were 3221 deaths in residents of the Maltese Islands, a slight decrease over the previous year (22 less deaths).

The age-standardised mortality rate has been decreasing over the past years as seen in the graph below. Mortality rates for Malta compare well to old member states (EU-15) and are much lower than the average of new member states (EU-12).
