Polidano backs down: ‘Not our intention to escalate matters’
Construction magnate Charles Polidano sends apologetic letter to Prime Minister: ‘I apologise for any inconvenience that might have been caused’.
Construction magnate Charles Polidano has apologised to the Prime Minister for any inconvenience that Polidano Group may have caused.
In a letter sent to the Prime Minister, Polidano insisted that it had not been Polidano Bros' intention to "escalate any situation".
"We confirm our willingness to fully cooperate with the competent authorities in this matter," Polidano wrote in his letter.
Earlier today, MEPA CEO Johann Buttigieg said that Polidano suggested he would withdraw the prohibitory injunction filed against MEPA when enforcement officers yesterday swooped on Polidano's property to carry out direct action after enforcement notices were blatantly ignored.
The action was however stopped by court's orders after Polidano's lawyers filed for a prohibitory injunction. MEPA this morning filed an application, requesting the courts to order all construction work at Hal Farrug to be stopped.
Polidano told Joseph Muscat that "no work will be undertaken on the site in question".
"I apologise for any inconvenience that might have been caused which was however unintended," he said.
Polidano also said that he had decided to give a "day off" to his employees so as to "calm things down" after yesterday's events. Workers who turned up for work at the Hal Farrug site this morning found the gates closed without any warning.
