Malta's sweetheart nominated for Gieh ir-Repubblika title by the Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has nominated Gaia Cauchi and her team for the prestigious award of the Gieh ir-Repubblika.
Together with her team, the 11-year-old singer met the Prime Minister during which the announcement was made.
Muscat congratulated the team for the excellent result obtained at Kiev on Saturday, which for the first time has seen Malta winning the junior Euro song contest.
The Prime Minister's announcement came as the Parliament was debating amendments to the law regulating the awarding of the title. The Opposition has already expressed it was against the capping removal and have suggested there could be more than meets the eye with government's decision to relax the rules.

Are we getting the right perspective here?. Gieh ir-Repubblika for winning a festival? This child is good and should be encouraged and prepared for hard work. But Gieh ir-Repubblika is out of place. What about children who really try hard but never make it? Or children who are good but do not have family support to help them reach their potential?

This girl does have talent, oodles of it. However it is time that those around especially her parents and music teachers to protect her from a premature limelight. Otherwise she will join the ranks of many child wonders who just fizzle out. Those around her and her music techers must now let her develop her amazing talent for the objective should be to develop her must into an outstanding singerto grace the international stage in a few years time. Perhaps our operatic prodigy Joseph Calleja should guide her on this.

If she gets it she will certainly be in good company such as Gaddafi and Kim Yeung whats-his-face!Whilst this is a great achievement lets get real please as she never invested a cure for cancer did she and if any further undermining of the credibility or validation of this award -given out like pastizzi-this is surely it !
