Simon Busuttil meets MCESD civil society members

Opposition leader Simon Busuttil this afternoon met with civil society representatives from the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development.

"The role of civil society is crucial. Political parties are not there to provide a solution to everything but to represent the society and take the necessary decisions. This is why your role is important, because you are the most specialised players in different sectors," Busuttil told the MCESD members.

Busuttil said his party wanted to make good use of its time in Opposition, and hat such meetings were aimed at bringing the party closer to the electorate's needs and challenges.

On the other hand, civil society representatives said that the main concern of voluntary organisations remained funding and financial difficulties, at which point Busuttil promptly said that they share the same concern.

The meeting continued behind closed doors.
