St Anne's street in Floriana will once again provide the venue for a New Year's Eve party.

Arguably the busiest street in Malta, St Anne's will be closed off to traffic, allowing for a 'street-party atmosphere' to take place uninterrupted.

"The street will be transformed into a village of activities for families and friends alike," a member of the Floriana Local Council said.

Judging on previous year's turnouts, it is expected that thousands of people will join in the celebrations in Floriana to ring in the New Year.

"What makes this event different from many others in Malta is that the activities that will be on show will be aimed at all family members, whether they are old or young," he said, explaining that this year a 'kids area' was even being set up, with animators as entertainers.

The council said that it was a common occurrence for big cities abroad to host mass outdoor events for occasions such as New Year's and that it their success that encouraged the local council to start organising the event.

This year, for the first time, restaurants will be set up under various tents whilst the event will offer ongoing entertainment from many local music artists.  These include Cristabelle Borg, Miriam Christine Borg, Ludwig Galea, Aldo Busuttil, Joe Demicoli, 'Il-Hooligan, Chiara and Claudia Faniello.

Local presenter Owen Bonnici will play host for the night.

The event is being organised by the Floriana Local Council with financial backing from the Ministry of Tourism.

Well done to the Floriana local council for their 'forward thinking'. I for one, as a Valletta resident, am looking forward to the activities in both localities. I propose that we all look to the New Year with Joy and Positivity for our small nation. We are blessed in so many ways, let's be grateful for all we have and do our best for ourselves and our country in 2014.
