Joseph Cachia appointed police academy commandant ahead of retirement in January 2014
Deputy Commissioner Joseph Cachia has been appointed Commandant of the Police Academy, the home affairs ministry has announced.
A restructuring process will see an upgrading of the educational experience at the new Police Academy, the ministry said in its announcement.
Joseph Cachia joined the Police Force in 1974 as a constable. In 1977 he was promoted Police Inspector. From 1974 till 1980 he was assigned to District police duties.
From 1980 till 1983 he was posted at the Security Branch in charge of the Airport Security. Following these years he was also posted at the Criminal Investigations Department (General Crime) and was assigned duty at the Drugs Squad.
In 1985 he was promoted to Police Superintendent and continued serving the district of Gozo and Mosta, and promoted to deputy commissioner in September 1996.
Cachia will retire officially as a Deputy Commissioner on 7 January.
