Police deny fireworks factory explosion

An explosion heard shortly before 5pm had no serious consequences, the police confirmed with MaltaToday.

They denied rumours spreading that a fireworks factory, in the limits of Zebbug, had exploded.

The police communications office said it was ‘a false alarm’ as members of the St Joseph's Fireworks Factory of Zebbug were disposing of unneeded material. The factory is located in Wied Qirda, Zebbug. 

The explosion was heard in the surrounding areas of Zebbug, Qormi, Gudja and Luqa amongst others.
