An exhibition featuring a cluster of photos displaying Maltese culture is being held at Auberge d'Italie

Inaugurated on Thursday evening, the exhibition will last till the end of January and is open for visitors between 8.00a.m and 6.00p.m.

The photos, which display various aspects of Maltese life such as local traditions, culture, sports and food, were chosen by representatives from the Malta Institute for Professional Photography (MIPP) as part of a competition, organised by the initiative 'My Malta'.

In total, 1317 photos were submitted during a two-month period in which anyone from the public could partake with their own photographs.

The Minister for Tourism Karmenu Vella, who was present for the inauguration, praised the initiative saying that the photographs did not only represent promotional material for Malta, but they could also raise awareness amongst Maltese youngsters by showing them what makes them Maltese.

Vella also expressed his wish for the exhibition to be held on an annual basis.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Malta Tourism Authority, Josef Gauci, said that the idea behind the 'My Malta' initiative was to give opportunities to the general public to show their creativity.

The photograph which was awarded first place was taken below sea-level with the use of a water-proof camera, and features a scuba-diver. The prize was an Air Malta flight for two to any European country.

Each finalist was also given a certificate of merit.

The initiative 'My Malta' was founded in October by the Ministry of Tourism and the Malta Tourism Authority.
