PN files new complaint on TVM news bulletin

TVM says PN complaints to Broadcasting Authority have never been proven

The Nationalist Party has filed a complaint to the Broadcasting Authority, claiming that the TVM news bulletins on two interviews of Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and Opposition leader Simon Busuttil last Saturday, were skewed in government's favour.

The PN complained that TVM allocated Muscat double the time it had allocated to Simon Busuttiil, and that it was manipulated so that Muscat's comments appear both at the beginning and at the end of the news item.

In its reply, TVM said its news bulletins treated the value of a news item and did not value news by space and time allocated. "The report of the interviews was just and did not create any imbalance in the treatment of the two party leaders."

PBS said its news bulletins were considered serious and credible in every audience rating, attracting the largest Maltese TV audience. "This is no the first time the PN accuses PBS of media imbalance, but so far these accusations have never been proven."
