The guided-missile frigate USS Simpson (FFG 56) arrived in Valetta, Malta for a port visit, on 23 January.

The port visit is designed to continue Naval Forces Europe-Africa's efforts to strengthen maritime partnerships with European nations in order to enhance regional stability.

While in Malta, Simpson will host a reception for Maltese dignitaries, conduct a service project at a shelter for domestic violence victims, and provide tours for local associations.

The ship will also conduct a theater security cooperation exchange with the Armed Forces of Malta on damage control, expeditionary medical care and boarding team techniques.

"Simpson looks forward to this opportunity experience the rich history and culture of Malta," said Cmdr. Christopher Follin, Simpson's commanding officer. "This port visit serves as a perfect opportunity to strengthen our partnership with Malta as we collectively work to improve safety and security in the Mediterranean."

Simpson deployed in September from its homeport in Mayport, Fl., and is currently on a scheduled deployment in support of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the Naval Forces Europe-Africa area of responsibility.
