The MEPA Board granted planning permission for the redevelopment of Malex House into a new high definition studio theatre with offices and underlying parking facilities.
Malex House, which is a single storey semi-detached building and considered by the Superintendent of Cultural Heritage as having no cultural heritage value, sits adjacent to Rediffusion House, the recently renovated Grade 2 scheduled building that accommodates the Public Broadcasting Services operations.
The MEPA Board also approved planning permission for the redevelopment of an area measuring approximately 4500 square meters, within the existing Farsons Brewery Complex, limits of Birkirkara.
The site on which this planning permission has been granted is currently occupied by a reservoir with its roof being utilised for the open storage of crates. The new development will include the construction of a basement reservoir, a ground floor beverage packaging hall, an intermediate level for offices and two overlying levels of ancillary material stores. The project will also include the installation of photovoltaic panels covering the roof area of the redeveloped building.
