Social Welfare Services debating decriminalisation of certain drugs

Not comfortable with how drug addicts are being dealt with, Foundation for Social Welfare Services CEO Sina Bugeja reportedly said that the decriminalising of certain drugs is "under discussion."

According to a Times report  (17 March) , the foundation behind substance abuse agency Sedqa is not satisfied with the way addicts were being dealt with and that treating drug users as criminals was not conducive to the desired results.

Bugeja was reported as saying that the matter was still being discussed before a national direction on the topic could be drawn up.

Calls by Sedqa clinical director George Grima to for urgent discussions on drug decriminalisation last year were dismissed out of hand by government.

However, according to the report, Bugeja reopened the issue when answering questions during a report launch event.

Yet, the two drugs which are the biggest killers out there, are so easy to obtain- and with the government's full blessing, to boot!
