Man pleads guilty to raping mother and two daughters

A 42-year-old man from Valletta pleaded guilty to violently molesting his ex-girlfriend and corrupting her two daughters – one aged 13 and another aged 23.

On Friday, the Magistrate Gabriella Vella heard how the man also pleaded to corrupting his ex-girlfriend’s 13-year-old daughter on two occasions.

The accused was remanded in custody and the court ordered that the accused's name and that of the victims are not published.  He was also charged with threatening and harassing them, and for being a repeated sexual offender.

The prosecution, led by Inspector Jesmond Borg, also asked the court to ensure that the accused be put under psychiatric care, especially since he is a recidivist of such crimes.

Borg  argued that this is especially relevant in view of the fact that currently there is no set program of care for repeated sexual offenders, inhibiting them from committing further similar crimes once their prison term lapses.

Originally the accused stated he did not wish to be legally assisted but later on Dr Jose Herrera and Dr Veronique Dalli appeared to represent him. The sentence is expected to be delivered on 18 April.
