Cirkewwa terminal to be finalised by election time

The Cirkewwa terminal has been slated for completion just in time for the 2013 election, despite ongoing 10-year-long construction plagued by delays and long-forgotten deadlines.

Weekly newspaper Illum reports that an Infrastructure and Transport Ministry spokesperson has now said that “the project is just started and is expected to be finished in two years’ time.”

The work is expected to cost as much as €12 million, and has been on government’s lips for the past 15 years. In October 2009, Infrastructure and Transport Minister Austin Gatt pledged that the terminal would be finished by 2012.

However, it now seems that the works, partially financed by the European Union through its Cohesion Fund 2007-2013, will be completed in 2013 – 10 years later.
