FKNK calls on hunters to text bag counts to federation
FKNK urges hunters to send federation an SMS when they message the Malta Environment and Planning Authority (MEPA) each time they shoot a bird.
Hunters’ federation (FKNK) secretary-general Lino Farrugia has called on hunters to send an SMS to the federation each time they message MEPA with their catch.
Maltese and Gozitan hunters will be expected to register each bird they shoot down by sending an SMS to MEPA. This system is expected to allow the authority to keep tabs on how much quail and turtle dove (limited to 2,500 and 9,000 respectively) can be bagged by some 10,000 licensed hunters.
“By sending an SMS to the federation, FKNK will be able to monitor the hunting season, and in real time be able to analyse the numbers,” Farrugia said.
Farrugia said hunters should send an SMS with the letter ‘G’ on 50616250 when they catch a turtledove and an sms with the letter ‘S’ when catching quails on the same number.
The federation also urged hunters to call ‘119’ in case they needed to contact the Police for help or to report something.
