Motorcyclist dies in horrific crash on way to meet friends for day trip to Sicily
UPDATE 3 | A 37-year-old man from Attard died early this morning after he was involved in a horrific car crash in Valletta Road, limits of Rabat. On impact, the motorcyclist was thrown off his motorbike, and found five hours later on a tree by a helicopter crew.
The Police said that the accident happened at around 3:20am in Valletta Road, limits of Rabat.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a car, a Chrysler 300C and a Honda motorcycle, collided head-on. The Chrysler was being driven from Rabat towards Attard, by a 23-year-old man from Imgarr.
The Honda was being driven by 37-year-old Michael Sciberras from Attard but holds an identity card with an address in Xewkija, Gozo. The Police said members of the Civil Protection Department were called to conduct a search for the motorcycle driver who was not found on site.
Contacted by MaltaToday, the Police confirmed that due to the impact, the driver was thrown off his motorcycle, and was found five hours later on a tree some meters away from where the crash occurred. He was found by a helicopter crew from the Armed Forces of Malta. He was certified dead on the spot,
The 23-year-old was taken to Mater Dei for medical care having suffered serious injuries.
Due to the impact, both the car and the motorcycle suffered extensive damages.
Michael Scberras - a father of a young child - was reportedly on his way to Valletta Harbour to meet his friends and travel with their motorbikes for a day in Pozzallo, Sicily.
